Sophos: Attacks with a black search engine optimization for frequent queries on the eve of Easter

Customers who got caught in the trap of fraud, the victims of fake antivirus program.

Representatives at Sophos note that with the approach of Easter attackers are beginning to use black optimizing queries. Fraudsters are oriented to user requests the following subjects: “Eggs,” “chocolate” and “hares.”

If the user hits the site was created by hackers, his computer becomes the victim of a fake anti-virus called Windows Care Taker. Furthermore it gives the user a notification alleging detected malware infection, and to clean the computer prompts the user to purchase the full version of antivirus software.

Sophos representative Fraser Howard said: “The reason that an attack using SEO requests are successful, is that people rely on Google results.”
